Tweaking

Tweaking

Due to modifications in the IRS computer system, taxpayers will experience a delay in their tax return. This applies to people who filed their taxes before Jan 26.

The computer system was modified in order to prevent refund fraud.

The penalty for tax convictions is extremely high in the cases that end up in court. This frightens people who are tempted to cheat.
Some of these convictions aren’t actually because people purposely evade taxes. Often times, people hire tax preparers who are not honest.

If you need help filing your taxes this year, or have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the certified public accountants from Gonzalez and Arrambide at 956-447-9009.

Church’s Bold Temptation for Taxation

Church’s Bold Temptation for Taxation

Pastor Jim Garlow isn’t afraid of the IRS and he’s making that known. The leader of the Skyline Wesleyan Church in La Mesa, California will stand on the pulpit on October 7th and openly urge his congregation to vote for certain presidential and congressional candidates. The catch is, doing so could expose his church to being in violation of IRS rules regarding 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. The rules outlined state that any charitable organization can have a political stance on but prohibits acting “on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.”

Pulpit Freedom Sunday has been gaining prominence each year since its inception in 2008. On that day, pastors such as Garlow, and as many as 539 others, stand before their congregations and speak in favor of certain political candidates. In Garlow’s case, that puts the $7 million mega-church’s tax exemptions in jeopardy. The IRS has yet to respond to the movement even as some churches openly tape their political sermons and send them to the agency.
